What’s a good bang for the buck Canon SLR Digital Camera Flashes? 480 vs 580?

If I can buy just one flash, should I spend the extra dollar to get the 580? Is it worth the money? Why?
This will be mostly casual photography, but on occasions portraits and weddings for friends.

The 480 should be enough. The 580 is the one that you would buy if you were going to use multiple flash units.

Unless you are using multiple flashes/strobes, there isn’t a reason to get the 580. I say save the money towards future lens upgrades!

Also, if you ever do decide you need the 580, Canon accessories maintain their value very well (if you take care of them) and resale is easy and doesn’t lose much value.

I have the 580EX II and I think it's great… I also plan on buying other flashes and using them together though.

If you only plan on getting one flash, the 430EX will do fine (Canon doesn't have a 480).
