How to update Firmwire of Pentax digital SLR?

I want update to my Pentax istDL2 firmwire so that I can use 4/8gb SHDC memory card. How can I do it after downloading and copying in the memory card? should I have to copy it on 2 GB SD card or 4 GB SHDC card? when I insert SHDC card, it shows memory card error. Please Help!!

Here’s a link to v1.02 firmware update for *istDL2 (same model as yours?) with download links and installation instructions. You should read the Readme file that is included in the download for step by step instructions on how to update the firmware.
Pentax suggests you format and use an 8 GB mem card. It must be sort of a big file.

I just updated my K20Ds firmware, my first for any DSLR, without any problems. Just follow the instructions to the letter and you should do fine.

Question about Pentax SLR digital camera?

On my Pentax SLR dig. Camera dust marks have appaered on blue sky backgrounds on images taken with the camera. Can anyone reccommend a decent photo editing software that has the tools to remove these dust marks? preferably one that dosent break the bank! Thanks.

GIMP is free and Photoshop Elements would be your best bet for a commercial graphic editor, both will clone out the spots on your images.
You can also try a Giottos Rocket Air Blower, but I’ve read that it would just blow the dust elsewhere in the camera. I’ve used the Pentax O-Ick cleaner with good results but that’s only because I don’t want to send out my camera just for a sensor cleaning. There are other sensor cleaning options that you should look into.

Hi guys, Im off to thailand in 3 weeks time and would love a decent camera to take with me to take some wonderful pictures. At the moment iv only got a £140 standard digi cam and it doesnt take great pics. Iv been eyeing up the PENTAX KX DSLR camera and have been told its pretty good. BUT i cant afford the £400(ish) out right. Does anyone know anywhere online or on the high street that will allow me to pay monthly for this? Iv applied for an argos card but it wasnt accepted! Have a word with your Bank, the cheapest loan you can get is a bank overdraft facility, no penalties for paying it off early and no problem about taking as long as you want, you’ll just be incurring monthly overdraft fees, or they might give you a loan. Either are lots cheaper than a credit card.

Forget Argos, go to a reputable dealer such as SRS in Watford or Park Cameras, both deal on the net, both are reliable suppliers with full UK guarantees. For both the money will have to be in your bank account.

I have a Pentax SLR film camera and quite a few lenses for it. Can I get a digital camera and re-use those?

Are there any digital cameras which will take those lenses? I feel like it’s a waste to just get rid of them, but I’m sorta getting tired of using film and chrome.

Any Pentax DSLR can use them, if your if camera used the K bayonet mount they can be used directly. If it is the older M42 Screw mount you will need an adapter.

Any Pentax-A type lens can be used in any Mode, the only thing you are missing is auto focus, if they are are the older Pentax-M types then you have to use stop down metering and the only modes you can use are Aperture Priority and Manual.

So now I need to find a class on how to use this Camera effectively. I heard on the radio that Dodd offers free lessons no matter where the camera was purchased. Can you help me?

Pentax digital SLR camera (K100D) – "Memory Card Error"?

I’ll go through all the details since I’m not sure which are the relevant ones for the prognosis.

The camera is a Pentax K100D digital SLR. It was given to me by a friend who was the first owner. I bought a new SD memory card for it and the camera displayed "Memory Card Error" the first time I put it in and every time I re-tried it after that. I tried it in another camera (a digital compact) and it gave the same error message. This memory card was Class 10/Gold, 4GB (forget brand). The guy at the store I bought it at looked the camera up on the net to ensure it is the best card for that camera.

The store I bought the card from was JB Hi-Fi, a general consumer electronics and CD, DVD and games store, i.e. not a specialty camera store.

I took the card back to the store and they told me it must be a bad card and gave me another the same. I tried it immediately after leaving the store and it got the same error message so I took that back to the store and the guy then told me the card was the wrong one for the camera (said he owned the same model camera) because the card was too fast for the camera. He gave me a Panasonic Class 4/Silver 4GB card, the brand he used for his own same-model camera.

I tried that card but by then the batteries had run down and I had to recharge them before trying it again. (The batteries showed half power when I got the camera. I had accidentally left it on overnight the night before I went back to the store and tried the second and third SD cards.) I got "Memory Card Error" again.

The camera appears to work otherwise – when I operate the shutter release it auto-focuses etc. and the image appears on the LCD display. It just does not recognise cards I’ve tried so far. I am about to go back to the store again or ask for advice at a camera store and also ask a professional photographer I know. But if anyone here can give me advice before that time it’s welcome.

retiredPhil – Thanks. I forgot about formatting. But I formatted it just now and the camera displayed Memory Card Error again after formatting (or attempting it). I checked again (switching camera off and on) and still got the same. My PC is not responding to the card at all when I insert it into MMC/SD port.

I thought the "card is too fast" explanation sounded wrong too. The Pentax website says SD cards up to 2GB (Panasonic and SanDisk) or 1GB (Toshiba) are compatible, though it doesn’t specifically say not to go higher. Possibly higher memory sizes were not available at that time.
Camera R – Thanks. I’ll try getting the older type of card. This might also be the reason my PC can’t read it, since it is also over five years old. It’s odd if these older cards aren’t still sold retail though, since the cameras are only a few years old and of good quality. Not something people want to throw away just because they lose or damage the card.

Look on the card. "SDHC" cards (4GB and higher) were not available at that time. Although the card looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format the card uses is very different. ALL older cameras that were made before this format came out a few years ago just do not work with this card. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less). You can still purchase standard SD cards on Amazon, and they’re relatively inexpensive.

i am about to take an A-level in photography and not sure what camera to get ! at the moment im thinking the Pentax K-x Digital SLR Camera in Pink or the Canon EOS 500D Digital SLR Camera i want a camera that takes Amazing photos but dose not have an amazing price tag ! anybody know which of these cameras are the best or any better cameras you can recommend ?? all answers welcome

Like almost all other dSLR’s the K-R uses the state of the art Li-ion batteries, much "greener" than using AA batteries in the K-x model

Visit the camera makers websites to better understand the features that each camera has.

Digital filter in Pentax K2000 SLR make recording slow?

Hi,
I have Pentax K-m/K2000 DSLR camera. I noticed that If I set the digital filter on, then it take around 10 seconds to record the picture. If I set the filter off, it stores image quickly. Does digital filter takes time to process and store the image?
I got the answer from manual also and thanks to them who responded as well. It does take time if digital filter is on.
