DSLR Cameras?

I am looking for a Digital SLR camera. i would like it to have at least 10 megapixels and a pretty long battery life.

I could really use some reviews on ones that some of you have used and where you bought the camera from.

any help would be great. thanks

I would suggest that you handle models from the different manufacturers first. You may find that one or another feels right in your hands. Nikon and Canon are the two biggies, and have more support and accessories generally available, but Pentax, Olympus and Sony are worth looking into as well. Any one of them will be the start to a fine system for learning and growing in photography.

I use an 8 MP dlsr the Canon Xt. The Xti is 10 megapixels. Best to go to a regular camera shop and check them out. The staff will be more knowledgeable and able to answer any question better than any of the geek squad idiots.

I just got a Nikon D60 (their latest entry model), and I love it. I have both 18-55mm and 55-200mm VR lenses with it.

The battery life is upwards of 400 shots, given that you use the flash every once in a while. If you get one, whatever you do, don't use AUTO mode. Autofocus may be smart, but auto-exposure will turn out terrible.

I have the nikon d60. I love this camera. It comes with so many features. You can edit photos in the camera itself, it is really easy to use, it's easy to choose what aperture, iso, shutter speed, etc that you want. Nikon makes great vibration reduction lenses that truly make it easier to take pictures after a long day. I went to Point Reye's light house in nor cal and it is a 30 story climb up and down to get to the light house. After going up and down (60 stories worth of stairs) i was still able to take great pics with this feature. It is 10 megapixels and is a nikon so you know it is good.

There is so much more to say. Go on amazon.com and check out different cameras. They always have ton's of reviews.

Also go to a camera store or a place that has camera's so you can get the feel of them and see what type of pics they take. Enjoy your new camera

Also the battery life is fairly long. If you know your going to be taking pictures, charge the battery before hand you can get about 1000 pictures. It also depends on your sd card. Some process faster than others. The faster it is the less battery it will use up. I certainly have gotten well over 400 pics on a single battery.

I use both a Nikon D80 and a Minolta Maxxum 7D (which has now morphed into the Sony Alpha series). 10 MP are rarely necessary. They type and size of the sensor is more important. The Nikon D40 is a great camera, and very affordable. Canon also makes several affordable, yet quality DSLR cameras.

Check into used older models of Nikon DSLR cameras, or Canons. If you can get your hands on a used Minolta Maxxum 7D with lots of accessories, that is STILL my favorite camera…I've paid over $3000 on my Nikon D80 and lenses/accessories, and while it's a newer camera with more megapixels, I still love my Minolta far more. I get a better, sharper picture with my Minolta EVERY TIME.

I've shot many weddings, model portfolios, portraits, and everyday stuff with both cameras. The Nikon has more available accessories, without having to go to Ebay or used equipment, but my Minolta is far more reliable and less persickety…for things that are really important, I grab the Minolta first, hands down.

It's only 6.1 megapixels, but I can easily blow the photos up to poster size, without losing any quality. Beyond that, you can buy them very cheap these days.

I would suggest looking for a used professional DSLR Digital Camera. The DSLR cameras are so fun to shoot with…you can get different lenses for them…I suggest trying a cheap generic fisheye–it is a super wide angel lens…and fun to use :-)

You can buy an expensive professional SLR Digital Camera that sold for thousands a few years ago for a few hundred bucks today. They still have the same great quality they did when they cost thousands of dollars…

My recommendation is a Canon…maybe a d30, Digital Rebel or even a Canon d10 is a great camera…also really affordable now…but the choices in accessories is great! Battery grip, rechargeable batteries, flash, filters and lenses…so fun to play with….They are very easy to use…has different modes to help you with your shots…portrait mode for close-ups of people….landscape mode for shooting scenery…action mode for action (like fast sports)….It has a nightshot mode for amazing night shots….it fires the flash but leaves your shutter open for a few mil-seconds longer to capture the surrounding light…they look beautiful…great for fireworks or Xmas lights…

It is a great way to get a great professional digital camera that takes amazing shots…they are better than the consumer digital cameras. They are also alot more fun to use with different lens choices…..

I purchased 2 cameras from http://photographersadvantage.com and have been very pleased with my new found hobby!

Good luck and happy shooting :-)
