They are really nice but you have to know what is good and whats not. I would do what the person above me said. Take her to a specilized store for cameras like Sammy's Camera. If she is using a Leica 35 mm, you will NEVER be able to buy the right thing. Once you are at this level, it's the fine points that distinguish one camera from another and you just will not be able to do that. If she is a Leica user, she might really look down on digital photography anyway. I'd suggest that you get her a gift certificate at a local store or from B&H or Adorama and let her shop. Tell her that you want her to get a nice digital SLR and let her do the rest.
